Incarnation of the 80s and 90s spirit, arcade games allowed the spread of video games on a global scale, giving rise to new forms of social aggregation and creating the first video game icons. Real stars in the arcades, coin op games like Pac-Man, Donkey Kong and Asteroids marked the individual memory of entire generations and literally conquered the world. Inside VIGAMUS visitors can rediscover this way of playing, with original arcade cabintes entirely in free play.
Key symbol of video games invasion in society, Space Invaders had a overwhelming success, causing the proliferation of many legends around it. According to one of them the game, invented in 1977 by Tomohiro Nishikado, caused in Japan a quick disappearance of 100 yen coins, needed to play a match. The original Space Invaders cabinet from 1978, donated by TAITO to VIGAMUS and playable in free play, is the pride of the VIGAMUS arcade area. In addition to the original working machine, properly restored by the Japanese company, an exclusive video interview to the creator Tomohiro Nishikado tells facts and anecdotes about the creation of Space Invaders.
VIGAMUS offers the public a vast selection of arcade cabinets. Among the titles that visitors can play:
